A CNG kit is a coordinated fuel system, not a collection of interchangeable parts. The cylinder stores the fuel; valves control its route; the reducer manages pressure; and the metering hardware delivers the required gas for the confirmed engine and system type.
This guide explains product and selection principles. It does not confirm compatibility, replace model-specific documents or provide a repair procedure.
First identify the system type
The visible parts depend on whether the vehicle uses Conventional CNG, Sequential CNG for a port-injection application, or the dedicated Direct Injection CNG route. Sequential and Direct Injection systems both use electronic control and individual gas injectors, but their control strategy, hardware and calibration are not interchangeable.
The vehicle, engine, cylinder count, petrol-injector arrangement and emission stage must be identified before individual hardware is selected.
1. Cylinder, cylinder valve and refilling route
The CNG cylinder is the high-pressure storage vessel. Its cylinder valve belongs at the cylinder and performs a different function from the external refilling valve used to introduce gas into the system.
The refilling valve, high-pressure line, mounting and associated parts must follow the approved installation route for the vehicle and market.
2. Reducer or pressure regulator
Stored CNG pressure is far higher than the working pressure required by the engine-side metering system. The reducer regulates that pressure and, in Sequential configurations, supplies the controlled gas pressure required by the injector rail.
Reducer selection follows the engine demand, intended system and application. A compact high-pressure-solenoid reducer, a low-pressure-solenoid reducer and a conventional reducer are not automatic substitutes for one another.
3. ECU, sensors and injector rail
In a Sequential CNG system, the gas ECU reads the relevant engine and injection references, applies the vehicle calibration and commands gas delivery cylinder by cylinder. Sensors provide the pressure and temperature information required by that control strategy.
The injector rail meters gas into the individual intake paths. Rail resistance, flow, nozzle sizing and cylinder configuration must match the ECU and calibration.
4. Changeover, indication and filtration
The changeover switch lets the driver select or observe the operating fuel according to the system design. Gas-level indication is an operating reference, not a substitute for inspection or correct filling practice.
Filters help protect downstream components from contamination. Their specification and service route depend on the system and installation.
Why matching matters more than the number of parts
- Confirm the vehicle make, model, year and engine.
- Identify Conventional, Sequential port-injection or Direct Injection operation.
- Match the ECU, sensor, switch, reducer and injector rail as one system.
- Use the applicable approved product and vehicle route.
- Keep installation, calibration and after-sales support available.
